Turkey’s Yusuf Dikec Goes Viral for Casual Style at the Olympics

Yusuf Dikec, a 51-year-old Turkish shooter, has gained internet fame for his relaxed approach while competing at the 2024 Olympics. Known for his laid-back style, Dikec competed in the mixed team 10-meter air pistol event and casually shot with one hand in his pocket.

Teaming up with Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, Dikec helped secure a silver medal for Turkey. This marked a historic moment as it was the country’s first-ever medal in Olympic shooting.

What caught everyone’s attention was Dikec’s unconventional outfit—he wore a simple T-shirt, regular glasses, and small yellow earplugs. Many pointed out how his style contrasted sharply with other competitors who were dressed in high-tech gear, including ear defenders and visors.

One competing shooter, Serbia’s Damir Mikec, was decked out in specialized equipment, making the difference even more striking. Dikec’s laid-back vibe earned him comparisons to a “regular guy” at the Olympics, and even a few memes likened him to a hitman.

After the event, Dikec expressed hopes of winning a gold medal at the next Olympics in Los Angeles. He shared a video compilation of Turkish-language memes about him on his Instagram, showcasing his good humor about the newfound fame.

The shooting events took place in Chateauroux, just a few hours from Paris. While the atmosphere at the event was serious, Dikec’s demeanor certainly lightened it up, showing that sometimes casualness can lead to great outcomes.
