Twins Overcome 4-0 Deficit to Beat Mariners 12-6

SEATTLE — The Minnesota Twins made an impressive comeback against the Seattle Mariners, overcoming a 4-0 deficit to secure a 12-6 victory on Friday night at T-Mobile Park. Two outs in the ninth, trailing by three runs, Willi Castro hit a two-run home run that ignited the rally.
“When you’re positive, a lot of good things happen,” Castro said after the game. He went on to hit another home run in the tenth inning, adding to his standout performance.
This victory marked the Twins’ 18th win of the month, with manager Rocco Baldelli calling it “one of the greatest wins” in recent memory. The crowd of 31,614 at T-Mobile Park witnessed the drama unfold as Seattle closer Andrés Muñoz, who had not given up an earned run all season, was challenged by Castro’s bat.
After Castro’s homer tied the game, Byron Buxton, back from a concussion, contributed with a stolen base and scored on a Trevor Larnach single, leveling the score at 6-6. The Twins continued their momentum into the tenth, where Carlos Correa delivered a two-run homer, followed by additional runs that capped off a seven-run inning.
“It was as much fun as we’ve had playing baseball this year,” Correa stated, praising his team’s collective effort. Meanwhile, Zebby Matthews, who struggled early in the game but did not allow another Mariners runner to reach second base afterward, earned praise for his performance, lasting seven innings.
Despite their early struggles, including giving up back-to-back home runs to Cal Raleigh, Matthews rebounded to help the Twins clinch the win. “I wouldn’t have believed it, I’ll say that,” Matthews said, reflecting on his growth during the game.
Raleigh, for his part, still made history by becoming the first catcher to hit 20 home runs before the end of May, contributing to the excitement of the evening.
