Minnesota Twins Loss Against Chicago White Sox

CHICAGO – The Minnesota Twins started the 2025 season on a disappointing note, dropping their fourth consecutive game Monday with a 9-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field. This defeat marks a concerning trend as the Twins have been outscored 28-6 in their first four games, leaving them in one of their worst starts in franchise history.

Chris Paddack‘s season debut was nothing short of disastrous; he surrendered nine runs over just 3⅓ innings, tying personal records in runs allowed, earned runs, walks, and home runs. The team recorded only one hit in the first six innings against White Sox starter Martín Pérez, who struck out nine batters and effectively neutralized the Twins’ offense.

By the fourth inning, with the score out of reach, both Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa were pulled for pinch hitters. In a moment of desperation, the Twins turned to utility player Willi Castro to pitch in the eighth inning. The only highlight for Minnesota came in the seventh when Castro broke up Pérez’s no-hit bid with a single, prompting a cheer from the announced crowd of 10,423.

The White Sox executed a well-planned offensive strategy, beginning with a second-inning rally that featured a bunt single from Travis Jankowski and a three-run home run from Andrew Benintendi. By the time he hit the homer, Paddack had already labored through an exhausting first inning that cost him 32 pitches. He faced six batters with an 0-2 count but failed to record outs efficiently.

“This is definitely not the start we wanted,” Paddack admitted after the game. “I have to take accountability for my performance today.”

The Twins have hit a particularly low point, having recorded an 0-4 start for only the fifth time in franchise history, and it marks the first time since beginning the 2016 season at 0-9.

As the team continues to struggle, the front office may consider roster changes. For example, Righthander Bailey Ober, who gave up two three-run homers in a previous 9-2 loss on Sunday against St. Louis, may face scrutiny following the team’s overall performance.

The Twins will look to regroup and find their footing before their next contest as they continue to search for answers in the early going of the 2025 season.
