Tyler Herro Miami Heat 2024 All Star

MIAMI, Fla. — Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro has been named an NBA All-Star for the first time in his career, earning a spot as an Eastern Conference reserve. The announcement was made Thursday during TNT‘s broadcast, marking a significant milestone for the 23-year-old guard.

Herro, who missed the Rising Stars Challenge during his rookie season due to injury, will now participate in All-Star Weekend, set for Feb. 14-16 in San Francisco at the Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors. He joins teammate Bam Adebayo as the second Kentucky alum on the Heat to receive the honor.

This season, Herro has emerged as Miami’s most consistent player, averaging career highs of 24.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. His performance has been a bright spot for the Heat, who have faced challenges including Jimmy Butler‘s inconsistent availability and Adebayo’s up-and-down play.

“Tyler has grown into one of the league’s most complete players,” said Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra. “He’s not just a shooter anymore. He’s impacting the game in every facet—scoring, playmaking, rebounding, and defense.”

Herro’s development has been a key storyline for Miami this season. After winning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award in 2022, he has solidified his role as a starter and a primary offensive option. His improved versatility has made him one of the league’s most dynamic guards.

Joining Herro at All-Star Weekend will be second-year forward Jaime Jaquez Jr., who was selected for the Rising Stars Challenge for the second consecutive year. Jaquez, who also participated in last year’s Slam Dunk Contest, has been a standout rookie for the Heat.

All-Star Weekend will feature a mix of events, including the Rising Stars Challenge, Skills Challenge, Three-Point Contest, and the marquee All-Star Game. Herro’s selection underscores his rise as one of the NBA’s premier talents and a cornerstone of the Heat’s future.

Shandel Richardson, publisher of Miami Heat On SI, has covered the NBA since 2010 and has followed Herro’s journey closely. “Tyler’s growth has been remarkable,” Richardson said. “He’s gone from being a shooter to a complete player, and this All-Star nod is well-deserved.”
