Tyler Herro’s Injury Puts Miami Heat’s Playoff Hopes in Jeopardy

MIAMI, Fla. — The Miami Heat face a pivotal moment as they prepare to confront the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday night, with star guard Tyler Herro‘s availability in doubt due to a hip injury. The game, taking place at Kaseya Center at 6 p.m. ET, may hold significant implications for the Heat’s playoff aspirations.
Herro is currently averaging 23.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game, making this season a standout in his first All-Star appearance. Despite his contributions, Herro has been listed as a game-time decision. In recent outings, he suffered a contusion that could sideline him just as the Heat strive for a critical win.
Along with Herro, center Bam Adebayo is also on the injury report with a sprained left knee and is deemed questionable. Adebayo was injured after Houston Rockets’ Amen Thompson landed on his knee during a game that concluded the Heat’s ten-game losing streak. Adebayo managed to finish with 16 points, six assists, and six rebounds but showed signs of struggle while walking into yesterday’s press conference.
“Even right now, the games that we’ve lost, there still is an expectation that things have to be earned,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra noted regarding player accountability. “We’re seeing some progress in the little things.”
The Heat are 29-41 this season, holding a slight lead (2-1) in their season series against the Hornets, who own a dismal 18-52 record. Historically, Miami has dominated Charlotte, winning 79 of their 128 matchups, with a solid 45-19 standing at home.
The injury list doesn’t end there. The Heat will also be without rookie forward Nikola Jovic (hand) and guard Dru Smith (Achilles), who are both out for the season. Veteran Kevin Love has seen limited playtime, only participating in four games since early February.
On the Hornets’ side, injuries also plague their roster. Forward Grant Williams (knee), guard Josh Okogie (hamstring), and rookie Brandon Miller (wrist) are either out or have uncertain status. Tre Mann (back) is also a confirmed absence.
The upcoming game against the Hornets not only represents a chance for the Heat to improve their standings but also increases the stakes for players like Adebayo and potentially Herro. Facing off against LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges will be a challenge as the Heat seek to snap their losing streak.
As the Heat prepare for the critical matchup, fans are reminded that all NBA games can be streamed live on Fubo, providing an avenue for following Miami’s remaining games this season.
