Tyson Stengle Commits to Long-Term Geelong Cats Deal Amidst St. Kilda Interest

Geelong Cats star Tyson Stengle has sealed his future with the club, signing a substantial five-year contract extension amidst reported rival interest from St. Kilda.

The 25-year-old dynamic forward, known for his goal-scoring prowess, decided to solidify his place at the Geelong Cats until at least 2029, a move that further cements his crucial role within the team.

Stengle’s outstanding performances on the field have not gone unnoticed, with his impressive season in 2022 culminating in both his first All-Australian selection and a maiden Premiership win with the Cats.

Since joining Geelong at the beginning of the 2022 season from Adelaide Crows, Stengle’s impact has been significant, exemplified by his consistency on the field, missing only four games over two and a half seasons.

Geelong Cats’ General Manager of Football, Andrew Mackie, expressed his delight at Stengle’s decision to extend his contract, highlighting the player’s immense talent and contributions to the club both on and off the field.

Reports suggest that St. Kilda had presented a tempting offer to Stengle in the hopes of securing his services, with a contract worth approximately $4.5 million over six years, surpassing Geelong’s own offer of $3.5 million over five years.

The Saints, led by list manager Stephen Silvagni, have been aggressive in their pursuit of top-tier talent, with big-money offers reportedly extended to other players such as Jacob Weitering and Luke Davies-Uniacke this season.

Moreover, St. Kilda’s Josh Battle, a key defender, is also attracting interest from rival clubs like Hawthorn, Collingwood, and Melbourne, as he remains a pending free agent at the end of the current season.
