Tyus Jones Faces Trade Rumors Amid Struggles with Orlando Magic
ORLANDO, Fla. — Tyus Jones, a former first-round pick, is experiencing a tough season with the Orlando Magic, where he signed a one-year, $7 million contract last July. The point guard, once considered the best backup in the league during his time with the Memphis Grizzlies, has had difficulty adjusting to his new team.
Since joining the Magic, Jones has struggled to make an impact. In 18 games, he has averaged just 1.7 points and 1.8 assists per game, shooting 28.3% from the field and a disappointing 19.2% from three-point range. His playing time has also been limited to 13.3 minutes per game.
Despite this, Jones had a season-high 25 minutes played on Sunday against the Boston Celtics, contributing six assists. However, he finished the game shooting only 1-of-6 from the field, totaling three points as the Magic fell to the Celtics, 138-129.
The Magic had signed Jones with hopes that he would stabilize their offense as they compete in a competitive Eastern Conference. After a 1-4 start, they currently hold a 10-8 record and sit ninth in the conference. The team has been without star player Paolo Banchero for the last six games due to a groin injury.
As Jones becomes trade-eligible on December 15, speculation is growing that Orlando may explore potential trades before the February 5 deadline. With the Magic eager to enhance their roster, they might seek a better backup point guard, as Jones has not yet found his rhythm in Orlando.
