UConn Coach Dan Hurley Berates Official in Tense Victory Over Butler
STORRS, Conn. — UConn men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley made headlines Tuesday night after berating an official during a tense 82-80 overtime victory over Butler. The fiery coach was caught on camera telling the official, “Don’t turn your back on me, I’m the best coach in the f—ing sport.”
Hurley’s outburst came during a dispute over a foul call on a defensive rebound attempt late in the first half. After the game, he emphasized his desire for better communication from officials. “I was just looking for more dialogue,” Hurley said. “It’s about respect and understanding.”
The two-time national champion coach also expressed frustration with the media’s focus on his sideline behavior. “I just wish they put the camera on the other coach more,” Hurley remarked. “I see other coaches in the Big East being just as demonstrative, but the camera always finds me. I’ve created this for myself, though. I’m not the victim here.”
UConn dominated early, building a 15-point lead in the first half and entering halftime with an eight-point advantage. However, Butler mounted a comeback, erasing a nine-point deficit in the final 6:50 of regulation. A clutch jumper with 1:43 left tied the game at 68, forcing overtime. The Huskies ultimately secured the win in the extra frame, improving their record to 10-3 in their last 13 games.
Despite a rocky start to the season, including a three-game losing streak, UConn has found its rhythm, winning 10 of its past 12 games. The victory over Butler marked another step forward for the Huskies as they aim to solidify their standing in the Big East.
