UConn’s Karaban Returns for Senior Season After NBA Draft Decision

HARTFORD, Conn. — UConn power forward Andre Karaban will return for his redshirt senior season after withdrawing from the 2024 NBA Draft, sources confirmed to ESPN. Karaban, a two-time national champion with the Huskies, submitted his name for the draft before deciding to stay in Storrs for his final year of eligibility.
The NBA draft early-entry deadline passed on Saturday. Karaban, 22, was projected as the No. 35 prospect in ESPN’s rankings but chose to focus on his college career after evaluating his options during workouts in Chicago.
“The last few years have been transformational for me as a person and player,” Karaban said. “I am forever grateful to my coaching staff, my brothers, the fans, and the community at UConn for all of the memories we’ve made together.”
Last season, Karaban averaged 14.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. His shooting percentages dropped to 43.8% from the field and 34.7% from three-point range, both career-lows. UConn’s season ended in the second round of the NCAA tournament, losing to Florida, the eventual national champion.
Karaban aims to lead his team back to championship contention. He expressed his desire to make his final season a memorable one. “I have unfinished business to chase another national championship with my brothers,” he said.
The Huskies will feature a more experienced roster next season, with notable returnees and the addition of several promising recruits. UConn’s head coach, Dan Hurley, plans to build a team that mirrors the successful championship squads. Karaban’s experience is expected to be invaluable, as he has been a key player in the team’s offense.
As Karaban focuses on his return, UConn hopes to solidify its roster to become a strong contender in the upcoming season. With his leadership, the Huskies are poised for another exciting year on the court.
