UConn Looks to Rebound Against Georgetown After Recent Loss

HARTFORD, Conn. — The UConn men’s basketball team is seeking a rebound victory as they prepare to face Georgetown on Wednesday, February 26, at the XL Center. Coming off an 89-75 defeat to St. John's, the Huskies (18-9, 10-6 Big East) aim to secure a win against the Hoyas (16-11, 7-9 Big East) in their quest to avoid a disappointing 10-loss season.
A win against Georgetown would elevate UConn’s record to 19-9 and stave off their first 10-loss season since 2021-22, when they finished the year at 23-10. In contrast, Georgetown has struggled recently, losing nine of their last 13 games after a promising 12-2 start. They are coming off an 80-69 loss to Creighton.
This season, UConn has yet to lose consecutive games, with its last back-to-back defeat occurring during the Maui Invitational in late November 2024. “We need a bounce-back victory,” said head coach Dan Hurley. “We are focused on taking it one game at a time and getting back on track against Georgetown.”
The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on FS1. Fans can also stream the game via the Fox Sports Go app, which offers a free trial for new subscribers.
Here’s a brief overview of UConn’s recent performance: after suffering a loss to Seton Hall in overtime, the team pulled off a crucial win against Villanova, showcasing their resilience. The Huskies are now 6-5 in their last 11 contests, indicating a fluctuating but competitive season.
Georgetown will be seeking to end their downward spiral; however, UConn’s depth and talent make them a formidable opponent. Liam McNeeley leads the Huskies with an average of 15.4 points per game, although he has missed several games due to an injury. Solo Ball and Alex Karaban each add over 14 points per game, solidifying the team’s scoring efforts.
With the regular season drawing to a close, every game counts as teams gear up for conference tournaments. Following the matchup with Georgetown, UConn will face Providence and No. 16 Marquette, further underscoring the importance of a win on Wednesday. “Each game is crucial right now for our momentum heading into tournaments,” Hurley added.
