Mike Nardi Uconn Basketball Assistant Coach

Storrs, Connecticut — The University of Connecticut men’s basketball program announced Tuesday the hiring of Mike Nardi as an assistant coach. Nardi, who played 122 games for Villanova University from 2003 to 2007, joins UConn after spending a decade with the Wildcats. His latest role was as their interim head coach following Kyle Neptune‘s departure in March.

UConn head coach Dan Hurley expressed enthusiasm about Nardi’s addition. “I’m thrilled to add a bright and talented coach like Mike Nardi to our staff here at UConn,” he said. “Mike has been a part of winning under the brightest lights and on the biggest stages as both a player and as a coach. He will bring a unique perspective to help us pursue our championship goals, and I can’t wait for him to start working with our players and coaches.”

Nardi began coaching shortly after graduating, starting as the director of student-athlete development under Villanova’s iconic coach Jay Wright in 2015. He then served as a video coordinator and director of basketball operations before stepping into an assistant coaching role in 2019. During his time as an assistant, Nardi contributed to Villanova’s success, helping the team clinch two national championships, three Final Four appearances, and five Big East titles.

A native of Linden, New Jersey, Nardi had a successful high school career at St. Patrick High School before making a name for himself at Villanova. He accumulated over 1,300 points and ranks 12th in career assists in the program’s history. After college, Nardi played eight seasons in Europe before fully committing to coaching.

Nardi will join UConn’s coaching staff alongside associate head coach Kimani Young and assistant Luke Murray. His integration marks a significant move for the Huskies, aiming for continued success in the NCAA basketball landscape.
