UFC on ESPN 65: Gurule Makes Debut Against Skid-Stricken Osbourne

LAS VEGAS, USA — Luis Gurule (10-0) is set to make his UFC debut against Ode Osbourne (12-8) in a crucial flyweight bout at UFC on ESPN 65 this Saturday at the UFC Apex. This fight carries significant weight for Osbourne, who is desperate for a win after losing three consecutive matches.
Gurule earned his shot in the UFC following a split-decision victory over Nick Piccininni on Dana White‘s Contender Series last October. He has shown impressive resilience, finishing eight of his ten bouts early, which accounts for his reputation as an aggressive opponent.
Conversely, Osbourne seeks to return to winning ways after his last victory, a split decision against Charles Johnson in February 2023. Since then, the 33-year-old has faced defeats against Jafel Filho and Asu Almabayev, heightening the stakes for his upcoming fight against Gurule.
The odds favor Gurule, listed at -260 by FanDuel, against Osbourne at +205. As they prepare for the matchup, Osbourne’s significant 9-inch reach advantage poses a challenge for Gurule, but both fighters bring distinct styles that will make for an exciting contest.
“I’m looking to prove that I belong here,” Gurule said during a media interaction. “It’s a big step up for me, but I’m ready to rise to the occasion.”
In addition to their backgrounds, both competitors possess unique fighting styles. Osbourne is known for his grappling skills and striking range, while Gurule’s aggression and ability to transition in fights could prove pivotal in determining the outcome.
As fight night approaches, the anticipation builds not only for this matchup but for the entire card featuring notable battles, including a main event between Josh Emmett and Lerone Murphy. Fans can tune in starting at 5 p.m. ET for the prelims, with the main card kicking off at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN and streaming on ESPN+.
“Every fight is important, especially for my career at this point,” Osbourne commented in a recent interview. “I can’t afford to lose another one, so I have to find a way to win this time.”
The bout between Gurule and Osbourne is expected to take place around 9:45 p.m. ET. Both fighters understand the stakes, with Osbourne aiming to avoid a fourth straight loss, while Gurule looks to make a statement in his UFC journey.
