UFC 317 Main Card Faces Setback as Fight Falls Apart

LAS VEGAS, June 14, 2025 — The UFC 317 main card has suffered a last-minute setback as a key matchup has fallen through. The anticipated showdown between Jhonata Diniz and his opponent has been canceled just two weeks ahead of UFC International Fight Week.
The former featherweight champion was set to fight for the vacant lightweight title at 155 pounds on June 28 at the T-Mobile Arena. This event is a highlight of the UFC calendar, drawing significant attention from fans around the world.
Originally slated to open the pay-per-view event, the fight was expected to be explosive, with both fighters boasting a combined 14 knockouts in 15 wins. However, reports indicate that Tafa has withdrawn from the fight, disrupting what was seen as a promising match.
Jeff Bottari of the 4oz to Freedom podcast first reported the news. Sources later confirmed his withdrawal, leaving Diniz without his original opponent. Diniz, who faced a devastating loss in just 35 seconds during his last bout at UFC 312 in February, will now have to wait longer for a chance to rebound.
Fortunately for Diniz, the UFC has reportedly lined up a replacement. He is expected to face Alvin Hines, an undefeated fighter with a record of 7-0. Six of Hines’ victories have come by knockout, adding a degree of excitement and unpredictability to the matchup. Hines recently secured a win under the LFA banner, finishing Billy Ray Valdez with a head kick in the third round.
While the main card faces challenges, the UFC is still expected to deliver a compelling lineup. With Diniz now set to face Hines, fans are hopeful for another thrilling encounter.
