UNC’s Zayden High Expected to Return for Men’s Basketball Next Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Zayden High is expected to rejoin the North Carolina men’s basketball team for the 2025-26 season, according to multiple sources. High, a 6-foot-9 forward, re-enrolled in January after sitting out the entire 2024-25 season.
High’s absence came after he was suspended due to violations of the school’s sexual misconduct policy, related to an incident in August 2023. Although he was prohibited from participating in team activities, he reportedly continued to have access to team facilities.
Last season, High played sparingly in 23 games, contributing 18 points and 26 rebounds. He joined the team as a four-star recruit but had minimal playing time during his freshman year. The Tar Heels’ coach, Hubert Davis, has refrained from commenting on High’s situation.
During his year away from competition, High maintained workouts independently, exemplifying his commitment to return. Speaking about his efforts, he said, “I’ve been in the gym, I’ve been working. I’m trying to do whatever I can (in the 2025-26 season).”
In response to his potential return, the Tar Heels have already added five new players through the transfer portal, indicating a busy offseason for the program. Meanwhile, several other players have entered the transfer portal as well, reshaping the team’s roster.
High’s ability to rejoin the team is seen as an important step toward regaining his standing within the program. The Tar Heels look forward to welcoming him back as they continue to build their roster for the upcoming season.
