NEW YORK, NY — The undefeated New York Liberty (8-0) will host the Chicago Sky (2-5) on Tuesday night in a highly anticipated WNBA matchup at Barclays Center. The Liberty have established themselves as a formidable force this season, leading the league in offensive and defensive efficiency.

Through the first part of the season, the Liberty have outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points per game. Their latest victory was an 86-78 win against the Washington Mystics, with Breanna Stewart contributing 26 points and 11 rebounds. New York has a top offensive rating of 115.0 and a net rating of +24, making them a tough opponent for any team.

Head coach Sandy Brondello’s squad features standout performances from players like Natasha Cloud, who averages 6.6 assists with just two turnovers, and Jonquel Jones, who is hitting 43 percent of her 3-point attempts. Sabrina Ionescu continues to be an elite player, while also showing off her defensive skills.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Sky are struggling, ranking near the bottom of the league in scoring and defense. In their last game, the Sky suffered a 79-52 loss to the Indiana Fever, marking a challenging season start. Chicago’s offensive output hovers around 77.4 points per game, compared to the Liberty’s impressive 91.1.

Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso are expected to face off against Jones and Stewart in a battle of size and skill. Despite their offensive rebounding rank, the Sky’s defensive woes have made it difficult for them to compete. They currently sit second-to-last in defensive rating.

Ariel Atkins leads the Sky in scoring but has struggled with efficiency, and Chicago’s recent loss of veteran point guard Courtney Vandersloot to a knee injury has added to their challenges.

As the game approaches, New York faces the potential loss of two players, Leonie Fiebich and Nyara Sabally, due to EuroBasket commitments. This could give other players, such as Rebekah Gardner and Isabelle Harrison, a chance to step up and demonstrate the depth of the Liberty’s roster.

The last time these teams met, the Liberty reigned victorious, winning 99-74. Fans can stream the game live on ESPN+.
