Undefeated LSU Tigers Face Florida Gators in High-Stakes SEC Showdown
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 5 LSU Tigers (19-0, 4-0 SEC) aim to extend their undefeated streak to 20 games as they face the Florida Gators (11-8, 2-3 SEC) on Sunday at noon CT at Exactech Arena. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network, with Eric Frede and Jimmy Dykes providing commentary. Fans can also tune in to the LSU Sports Radio Network for live coverage.
LSU, coming off a bye, is on the road for two consecutive games, including a Thursday matchup at South Carolina. The Tigers are off to their second-best start in program history, trailing only the 2022-23 season when they began 23-0 and went on to win the national championship with a 34-2 record. Head coach Kim Mulkey, in her 25th season, has led her team to 20+ victories every year.
“They’re not afraid of the moment,” Mulkey said. “We’ve got a mixture of new players who are trying to find their way and become a lot more confident. You’ve got older players who have been in the system.”
Florida, meanwhile, is looking to rebound after a 69-94 loss to Ole Miss on Thursday. The Gators have struggled on the road, losing their last two games before returning home to face LSU. Both teams boast strong shooting percentages, with LSU (.492) and Florida (.481) leading the SEC.
LSU’s recent success has been fueled by standout performances from Aneesah Morrow, Flau’Jae Johnson, and Mikaylah Williams. Morrow, last week’s SEC Player of the Week, has been a dominant force, leading the nation in double-doubles (17) and rebounding (14.4 rpg). She is the only player in the country with multiple 20/20 games this season and recently became the eighth player in NCAA DI history to reach 2,500 points and 1,500 rebounds in a career.
Johnson, averaging 20.0 points per game, has scored in double figures in 28 consecutive games, while Williams has been a consistent contributor. Florida’s Liv McGill, the SEC Freshman of the Week, leads the Gators with 15.8 points per game. She is supported by Ra Shaya Kyle (15.2 ppg), Jeriah Warren (13.9 ppg), and Laila Reynolds (10.0 ppg).
LSU has shown resilience in close games, going 5-0 this season in contests decided by 10 points or less. The Tigers’ ability to win tight matchups will be tested against a Florida team eager to defend its home court.
Sunday’s game is a critical SEC matchup as LSU looks to maintain its perfect record and Florida aims to climb the conference standings. The Tigers’ next challenge comes on Thursday at South Carolina, followed by three consecutive home games.
