Ufc 313 Flyweight Showdown Rei Tsuruya Joshua Van

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – An exciting matchup is set to unfold at UFC 313 this Saturday when flyweight Joshua Van takes on undefeated prospect Rei Tsuruya in a pivotal prelim showdown. Originally scheduled to battle No. 12 ranked Bruno Silva, Van’s opponent changed following Silva’s injury withdrawal.

Now stepping in is Tsuruya, also eager to make a name in the UFC flyweight division. Scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN, the bout will be part of the preliminaries leading up to the main event featuring Alex Pereira against Magomed Ankalaev.

Joshua Van, 23, enters the octagon with a 5-1 UFC record and 10-2 overall, showing a striking capability with six knockouts and two submissions. He recently rebounded from his first loss to Charles Johnson, defeating Edgar Chairez and Cody Durden in consecutive fights. “I’m looking to capitalize on this opportunity and continue climbing the ranks,” said Van.

In contrast, Rei Tsuruya, only 22 years old, boasts an undefeated 10-0 record. As a former champion in the Road to UFC flyweight tournament, Tsuruya has proven his skills with four knockouts and four submissions in his bouts. He highlights his grappling prowess and significant takedown success. “This fight is crucial in proving my readiness for higher levels in the UFC,” he stated.

Although Van is recognized for his striking output, landing 8.88 significant strikes per minute underlines his aggressive style. Tsuruya, however, counters with an effective grappling strategy, attempting 2.5 submissions per three rounds. “This fight will be about controlling the pace, whether it’s standing or on the ground,” analyzed Van.

The contrasting styles further heighten the stakes. Tsuruya’s statistical advantages in ground game could dictate the flow if he brings Van to the mat, while Van’s striking versatility might dominate if the fight remains upright.

As the UFC flyweight division continues to evolve, both fighters seek to position themselves within the Top 15 rankings. Last weekend, Manel Kape’s victory against Asu Almabayev shifted standings, raising awareness about the urgency for rising talents in the division. “With events like these, the competition is fiercer than ever, and this fight means everything to me,” Tsuruya remarked.

Fans should not overlook the potential this matchup carries, as it welcomes a new wave of talent into the spotlight. UFC 313 aims to showcase not just the headlines but also promising fighters ready to take the next step. “We both have something to prove, and I believe this is just the beginning for both of us in the UFC,” added Tsuruya.

UFC 313 is set to take place at T-Mobile Arena, and with a thrilling card lined up, including the main event and co-main event featuring champions and contenders, fight enthusiasts are in for an electrifying night. The prelims start at 8 p.m. ET, with the main card commencing at 10 p.m. ET.
