STAMFORD, Conn. — Professional wrestling icon The Undertaker defended former WWE chairman Vince McMahon during a recent podcast appearance, reigniting discussions surrounding McMahon’s controversial past.
In an appearance on the podcast ‘Busted Open,’ Undertaker, whose real name is Mark Calaway, shared his thoughts after attending the Super Bowl with McMahon on February 11, 2025. This marked one of McMahon’s first public outings since his departure from WWE amid serious allegations involving misconduct over a year ago.
“I was his guest, yeah. Look, I’m gonna get hate for that,” Calaway said, addressing the backlash for his association with McMahon. He emphasized their friendship, noting, “He gave me an opportunity to make something of my life and become something.”
Undertaker referred to McMahon as a father figure in his life, particularly after the passing of his own father. He expressed concern over the public reaction to their friendship, saying, “I don’t know what has been done, what hasn’t been done. We don’t talk about those things.” He continued, “I looked at him…he was a brother, he was a mentor, and he always treated my family with the utmost respect.”
While expressing his support for McMahon, Undertaker admitted he does not possess all the facts surrounding the allegations, stating, “There’s only one judge. That’s the man upstairs. He’s gonna give us all whatever we deserve at the end.”
Critics have responded to Undertaker’s comments, questioning the morality of overlooking allegations of inappropriate conduct. Many have highlighted the severity of the accusations against McMahon, including claims detailed in a lawsuit. “If one of my close friends or family members was accused of doing these terrible things, I’d certainly read the full lawsuit by now,” a wrestling industry observer commented. “Ignoring such allegations feels irresponsible.”
The Undertaker acknowledged the mixed outcomes of his Super Bowl experience, remarking, “The game was the shits, but the experience was amazing.” He noted that it was refreshing to see McMahon in better health following recent surgeries, which calmed concerns about his friend’s well-being.
Despite the pushback, Undertaker affirmed his right to associate with whom he chooses. “I don’t have to agree with everything that people do. It doesn’t change the fact that I love somebody, and I’m friends with somebody,” he stated. “I’ve got a small, small inner circle that I give a shit what people think.”
The ongoing controversy surrounding McMahon’s departure continues, with many in the wrestling community examining the implications of his actions and the ongoing legal proceedings. As events unfold, the wrestling community remains divided over loyalty and accountability in the world of professional wrestling.
