The University of South Carolina‘s athletic and musical programs have made significant headlines in the past 48 hours. In basketball, the Gamecocks secured a crucial victory over Virginia Tech, winning 70-60 in the Fort Myers Tip-Off finale. Sophomore Collin Murray-Boyles led the team with 16 points, and the Gamecocks hit 11 three-pointers to top the Hokies. This win marks the Gamecocks’ fourth consecutive victory over Virginia Tech in neutral court matchups.

In another notable achievement, the University of South Carolina’s Carolina Band participated in the 98th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 28, 2024. This prestigious event is a pinnacle of marching band excellence, and the invitation represents a significant recognition of the School of Music, its students, and faculty. The band performed in front of millions, showcasing their hard work and dedication. The event was preceded by various performances and rehearsals in New York City, including a practice parade and a dinner concert by the USC Chamber Players.

The band’s participation in the parade was supported by donations from notable USC legends, including Dawn Staley, Shane Beamer, and Darius Rucker, who each contributed $25,000 to the band’s travel fund. This financial support highlighted the strong community and alumni backing for the university’s musical programs.
