Uroš Đurđević Soccer Player Celebration

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Uroš Đurđević is poised to make a historic impact in his debut season with Atlas as he battles for the top scorer title in Liga MX‘s Clausura. With 11 goals to his name, he sits just one goal behind current leader Paulinho ahead of the final match of the regular season against rivals Guadalajara on Sunday.

The match, a highly anticipated city derby, holds significant implications for both teams. Should Atlas defeat Guadalajara, it would ensure that their rivals miss out on playoff qualification. “I didn’t imagine myself in this situation (fighting for the top scorer title). I had a very good personal tournament and I hope to bring joy to the club by becoming the top scorer. That would be historical,” Đurđević said.

Despite the pressure of the occasion, Đurđević expressed confidence in his ability to perform. “I don’t feel pressure. I’ll have less pressure knowing it’s a match that we all want to play. I believe this tournament has very strong competition for the top scorers. Many can win the title, but I will focus on my team to achieve victory,” he added.

Born in Serbia, Đurđević previously played for Partizan before moving to Atlas, where he found a prominent role in the team’s offensive lineup. His scoring prowess has made him a crucial player in Atlas’s campaign this season.

As the final whistle approaches at Estadio Jalisco, fans will undoubtedly be watching closely to see if Đurđević can make his mark and potentially claim the title of the league’s best scorer.
