USC Trojans Bench Quarterback Miller Moss, Sparking Transfer Speculation and NIL Opportunities
The USC Trojans have benched quarterback Miller Moss ahead of their Week 12 game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, prompting speculation about his potential transfer and the significant Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) money he could attract. Despite not officially announcing his intention to transfer, Moss’s situation has ignited rumors and interest from other schools.
USC coach Lincoln Riley made the decision to bench Moss on November 5, giving transfer quarterback Jayden Maiava the opportunity to start. The Trojans, currently with a 4-5 record, are seeking ways to improve their season and secure a bowl game. Moss, who sat behind quarterback Caleb Williams for his first two years at USC, made his starting debut in the 2023 Holiday Bowl, where he threw six touchdown passes.
Moss had a mixed start to his first year as the starting quarterback, leading the Trojans to a 2-0 start but failing to win any road games this season. He has accumulated 2,555 passing yards, 20 total touchdowns, and nine interceptions, while being sacked 10 times due to constant pressure from opposing defenses.
With Maiava taking over the starting role, Moss’s future with the USC Trojans is uncertain. However, his experience and leadership qualities make him an attractive candidate for other schools in need of a quarterback. Schools like the Michigan Wolverines and the Oregon Ducks are reportedly interested, and Moss is estimated to be worth around $915,000 in NIL money.
The Michigan Wolverines, in particular, are looking for a quarterback to start in 2025 and have been aggressive in their recruitment efforts, reportedly offering LSU‘s quarterback recruit Bryce Underwood $10.5 million in NIL to flip his commitment. While there is no confirmation that Moss will transfer, it is considered highly likely given the current circumstances[1]).
