Usman Faces Buckley in UFC Fight Night Main Event

Atlanta, Georgia – Former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman will return to the Octagon on June 14, 2024, to face surging contender Joaquin Buckley, UFC CEO Dana White announced on Friday.
Usman, who holds a record of 20-4, has not fought since his majority decision loss to Leon Edwards in October 2023. That fight took place on short notice and in a higher weight class. Now, Usman will compete in his natural welterweight division for this five-round bout, which will headline UFC Fight Night at the State Farm Arena.
Meanwhile, Buckley, with a record of 21-6, is eager to make his case for a title shot. He has been unstoppable since dropping to welterweight in 2023 with a perfect 6-0 record. His last fight ended in a TKO finish against a former interim champion in December 2023.
Currently, Usman and Buckley rank No. 4 and No. 6, respectively, in the UFC welterweight division. A notable flyweight matchup featuring former strawweight champion will serve as the co-main event during the UFC Fight Night, as per White’s updates.
Usman’s return is highly anticipated, as he seeks to reclaim his status at the top of the welterweight class.
