USWNT Faces Japan for SheBelieves Cup Title Showdown

SAN DIEGO, California — The U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) will compete against Japan in the final of the 2025 SheBelieves Cup on February 26 at Snapdragon Stadium. This highly anticipated match marks the 42nd meeting between the two nations, with significant implications for both teams — a chance for the U.S. to claim its sixth consecutive cup title and for Japan to secure its first.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT (10:30 p.m. ET). Both teams have finished the tournament with six points, having previously defeated Australia and Colombia. The U.S. secured victories with a 2-0 win over Colombia and a 2-1 win against Australia. Japan, meanwhile, impressed with a 4-0 thrashing of Australia followed by a 4-1 victory over Colombia.
If the match ends in a draw, Japan will be crowned champions due to a superior goal differential, currently four goals better than the U.S. This scenario places the stakes high, with both teams expected to showcase their best performances on the pitch.
Japan’s Mina Tanaka has been a standout player in the tournament, scoring four goals, two in each of her games. With a wealth of experience, Tanaka is fourth in Japanese history for goals for the senior team, a testament to her skill in the international arena. Maika Hamano has also contributed with two goals, making them the only players with multiple goals this tournament.
“We’re excited to face such a strong opponent,” Tanaka said. “We have worked hard to get to this point and we will give our all to bring home the trophy.”
The USWNT’s roster has seen contributions from several players. Lynn Biyendolo and Michelle Cooper both scored in the previous matches, while Catarina Macario and Ally Sentnor each found the back of the net to aid the team’s offensive strategy.
Fans can catch the live broadcast of the match on TBS and Universo, with streaming options available on Max and Peacock, beginning at kickoff time. Additionally, Westwood One will provide radio coverage of the event, marking the start of its multi-year partnership with U.S. Soccer for broadcasting rights to all Federation-hosted matches.
“We understand the pressure that comes with retaining the title,” said U.S. Head Coach Emma Hayes. “Our team is prepared, and we’re eager to showcase our determination on the field.”
As the tournament culminates, the USWNT looks to add another trophy to its illustrious record. The match against Japan promises to be more than just a game; it’s an opportunity for both teams to cement their legacies in women’s soccer.
