ARLINGTON, Texas — The University of Texas at Arlington‘s softball team is set to host their Western Athletic Conference opener this weekend after a successful three-game winning streak. The Mavericks, with a record of 10-8, will face off against the Utah Tech Trailblazers, who are currently 9-12, in a doubleheader on March 7, starting at 3 p.m., followed by a finale on March 8 at noon.

The upcoming series coincides with International Women’s Day, providing a unique opportunity for team bonding as players will accompany women from the UTA Athletics staff before the games. This initiative highlights UTA’s commitment to recognizing women’s contributions in sports.

As UTA enters this pivotal stage, their recent performance and key player statistics indicate a competitive series ahead. “We’re feeling confident after our last few games. We’ve worked hard, and we’re ready to bring that momentum into conference play,” said Mavericks head coach Melissa Smith.

Following the conference opener, UTA will host the University of Texas at San Antonio on March 11 for a midweek matchup at 6 p.m. This game will mark the Mavericks’ 11th home game of the season as they look to build on their current success.

Maintaining their winning streak and leveraging home-field advantage will be critical for UTA as they aim to improve their standing in the WAC. The Mavericks are determined to make a strong impression in their conference after a solid start to the season.
