Josh Richardson Utah Jazz Trade News

Salt Lake City, Utah – The Utah Jazz announced on Sunday that they have officially waived guard Josh Richardson following a series of trades leading up to the NBA trade deadline.

This decision had been anticipated after the Jazz acquired Richardson from the Detroit Pistons as part of a multi-player trade deal, which included Dennis Schröder. The trade was concluded just days before the deadline, aimed at reshaping the team’s roster.

Richardson, who has experienced a tumultuous season due to a lingering heel issue, played only eight games for the Miami Heat before being traded. Historically, he has proven to be an effective role player, averaging 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game in his previous season.

“We want to focus on the long-term goals of this franchise, and this move is part of that strategy,” said Jazz General Manager Justin Zanik in a press release. “Josh has been a great teammate, and we wish him the best moving forward.”

During the 2024-25 season, Richardson struggled to contribute effectively, resulting in limited appearances. His shooting percentage dipped and his role diminished, culminating in Utah’s decision to part ways with him. He will soon become a free agent and could draw interest from playoff contenders looking for experienced options off the bench.

Despite his health concerns, the veteran guard is seen as capable of providing depth if he can prove he is healthy. The Jazz’s waiver gives them an open roster spot which can be utilized to promote a two-way player or explore 10-day contract options.

In connection with the recent trades, the Jazz have now completed numerous transactions, including sending multiple draft picks and players to build a competitive roster. “We’ve made significant changes, and we are confident that they will better position us for future success,” Zanik added.

Fans will be keeping an eye on Richardson as speculation arises about potential interest from other teams looking to bolster their lineups as the season progresses. His ability to contribute will depend heavily on his physical condition, leaving many to wonder what the next chapter holds for him.
