Fc Utrecht Ajax Match Highlights April 2025

Utrecht, Netherlands – FC Utrecht delivered a stunning blow to Ajax, winning 4-0 in their matchup on April 20, 2025, at Stadion Galgenwaard. The loss continues to burden Ajax as they face growing pressure ahead of their next league game against Sparta.

The match began with Ajax dominating possession, but it was Utrecht that struck first, with Sébastien Haller scoring at the 29-minute mark. Despite their strong start, Ajax failed to rebound after conceding the goal, which changed the momentum of the game.

“We started well, but once they scored, we lost our focus,” said Ajax’s head coach Francesco Farioli. He emphasized the need for his team to regain their vigilance, especially given Utrecht’s ability to counterattack decisively.

Utrecht doubled their lead shortly after the break, as Miguel Rodríguez found the net after a VAR review confirmed that his initial shot had crossed the line. The goal was a result of Rodríguez bypassing Ajax’s Jorrel Hato with a quick burst of speed.

Ajax’s attempts to respond were thwarted repeatedly; a promising chance arose when Steven Berghuis set up Brian Brobbey, but the latter failed to convert from a tight angle. Utrecht keeper Vasilios Barkas remained resilient, thwarting Ajax’s attempts to close the gap.

FC Utrecht put the game out of reach with two more goals, one being a powerful strike from Paxten Aaronson. In the dying moments, Bertrand Traoré came close for Ajax, striking the post but failing to find the net.

Farioli noted the importance of the upcoming match against Sparta, stating, “We have to put this behind us and focus on bouncing back next week. We’ve got to learn from our mistakes today.”

With this defeat, Ajax will need to reevaluate their strategies if they hope to reclaim their form heading into the concluding matches of the season.
