Vanga Defends Rashmika Mandanna's Overlooked Performance In Animal

Director Sandeep Vanga recently addressed the disparity in attention received by Triptii Dimri and Rashmika Mandanna for their performances in the movie Animal. Vanga spoke about how Rashmika’s performance was overlooked by audiences and awards bodies, while Triptii, with a smaller role, garnered most of the attention. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Vanga discussed these topics and revealed that he attended the Filmfare Awards solely to support the cast and crew, even though he knew he wouldn’t win.

Vanga emphasized the complexity of Rashmika’s performance, describing it as not easy. He praised her ability to effortlessly portray a range of emotions, including giggling, laughing, and going mad, all within an 11-minute scene. Despite not being nominated, Vanga attended the awards ceremony to show support for his team, as the movie received 19 nominations. He expressed his general indifference towards awards, but attended due to the team’s happiness.

Vanga also addressed the speculation regarding Triptii overshadowing Rashmika. He mentioned that Rashmika had a busy schedule and didn’t have time for interviews, which might have contributed to the perception of overshadowing. Vanga commended both actresses, highlighting Triptii’s commitment to her lines and her exceptional performance in a confession scene shot after 36 hours of continuous filming.

The movie Animal emerged as a massive hit, grossing over Rs 900 crore worldwide. Vanga concluded the interview by expressing his admiration for the film’s various facets, stating that the story encompassed more than just the performances of the lead actresses.
