Shea Theodore Signing Contract With Vegas Golden Knights

The Vegas Golden Knights have secured a significant commitment from one of their key players, announcing a seven-year contract extension for defenseman Shea Theodore. The extension, announced by General Manager Kelly McCrimmon on October 24, 2024, will keep Theodore with the Golden Knights through the 2031-2032 season. The contract is valued at $51.975 million, with an average annual value of $7.425 million.

Theodore, 29, is in his eighth season with the Golden Knights and has been a pivotal figure in the team’s success. He currently leads the team’s defensemen with seven points (1 goal, 6 assists) in six games this season, ranking fourth among NHL defensemen in scoring to begin the 2024-25 campaign. Last season, Theodore recorded a career-best 0.89 points per game, finishing with 42 points (5 goals, 37 assists) in 47 games, which was seventh among all NHL defensemen.

Theodore is the franchise leader among defensemen in several categories, including goals (67), assists (229), points (296), power-play goals (11), power-play points (88), overtime goals (seven), and game-winning goals (14). He has also played a crucial role in the team’s playoff success, including helping the Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup in 2023 with 13 points (1 goal, 12 assists) in the playoffs.

Theodore was originally selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round (26th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and was acquired by the Golden Knights during the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft. His new contract ensures that he will remain a cornerstone of the Golden Knights’ defense for the foreseeable future.
