Veteran Guard Patty Mills Waived by Atlanta Hawks, Available for Playoff Contender
Veteran NBA guard Patty Mills has been waived by the Atlanta Hawks, opening up opportunities for him to join a playoff contender as the league heads into its final stretch.
The 35-year-old Mills had a limited role with the Hawks this season, playing only 19 games and averaging 2.7 points and 1.1 rebounds in 10 minutes per game after being acquired by Atlanta in the off-season.
Atlanta upgraded 25-year-old guard Trent Forrest to a standard NBA deal after parting ways with Mills, signaling a shift in their roster strategy.
Mills, known for his tenure with the San Antonio Spurs, has had a storied 15-season career in the league, also playing for teams like Portland and Brooklyn before landing with the Hawks.
During his time in Brooklyn, Mills shared the court with NBA star Kevin Durant, who recently praised the Australian veteran’s dedication to the Boomers national team and his impact on the culture of basketball.
Speculation has arisen that Mills could potentially return to the Spurs, where he won an NBA championship in 2014 under coach Gregg Popovich, following the buyout of Marcus Morris from the team.
The Spurs are currently struggling in the Western Conference standings and could benefit from Mills’ veteran leadership, especially as they develop promising rookie Victor Wembanyama.
