Veteran footballer Pedro has expressed his excitement as he prepares for his first start of the season with Lazio in the Europa League match against Dynamo Kyiv. The game is scheduled to commence at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg at 20:00 UK time (19:00 GMT).

“It’s always wonderful to play in Europe, and I think it’s important for us,” Pedro remarked. “We have a difficult match against a strong opponent and will see if we can get a positive result.” The experienced player highlighted the challenging tempo of European matches, but voiced his confidence in Lazio’s preparation and motivation for the competition.

This match marks a significant milestone for Marco Baroni, who is debuting in UEFA competition as a coach at the age of 61. Baroni, who was appointed over the summer, brings his tactical acumen to the team following his previous coaching experiences. “The coach is working hard on his tactical ideas,” Pedro noted. “I think we’ve already seen some of his potential and we want to push even harder to get the result.”

Pedro, who turned 37 in July, is under contract until the end of the season, leading to widespread expectations that he may retire afterwards. This campaign has seen him make two appearances in Serie A, both as a substitute, making this upcoming start a notable event. “I still enjoy myself, otherwise, I wouldn’t still be playing,” Pedro shared. “Time goes fast, but I try to enjoy every minute I spend on the pitch, especially in Europe, which is special to give the team a step forward.”

The Spaniard made his move to Italy in 2020, initially joining another club before transferring to Lazio a year later on a free transfer. His illustrious career includes 84 appearances in the Champions League, four in the European Super Cup, three in the Conference League, and this upcoming match will be his 40th in the Europa League.
