Victor Perez U.s. Open Golf Ace

OAKMONT, Pa. — Victor Perez made history during the second round of the 2025 U.S. Open on Friday. The 32-year-old golfer from France hit a hole-in-one on the par-3 sixth hole, marking just the second ace ever recorded at the prestigious Oakmont Country Club during a U.S. Open.

Perez’s incredible shot came from 192 yards using a 7-iron. After landing a few feet short of the pin, the ball bounced towards the left side of the cup and rolled in, drawing cheers from the gallery. An animated Perez couldn’t contain his excitement, raising his arms and celebrating with his caddie, which included a chest bump that elicited a playful comment from broadcaster Mike Tirico.

“Obviously, a hole-in-one takes a little bit of luck,” Perez said after his round. “I was trying to hit something maybe 15-20 feet past the hole, and maybe it spun a little more and bounced in. I was fortunate, which I’ll definitely take.”

This ace was the ninth of Perez’s career, and he noted that he has made two others at his home course in the Bahamas, though no one witnessed those shots.

The last hole-in-one at a U.S. Open held at Oakmont occurred in 1983 when Scott Simpson made an ace on the 16th hole during the first round. Perez’s achievement not only brought excitement to Oakmont but also propelled him to a tie for sixth place at 1-over for the tournament, just four strokes behind the leader, Sam Burns, who finished the day at 3-under.

Perez entered the tournament after qualifying through a 36-hole playoff, marking his sixth appearance in a U.S. Open. He acknowledged that this was a crucial opportunity to break his streak of missing cuts at this event, and the hole-in-one significantly boosted his momentum.

As he prepares for the weekend, Perez expressed his wish to carry the thrill of his ace through the tournament. “When you get a chip-in or something like that, it’s great to release some emotion,” he said. “I had a tough start today but managed to bounce back and put up a solid round.”
