Minnesota Vikings Donovan Jackson Nfl Draft

EAGAN, Minnesota — The Minnesota Vikings took a significant step in reshaping their offensive line by selecting Donovan Jackson, a guard from Ohio State, with the 24th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night.

The Vikings have made it clear this offseason that they aim to improve their interior offensive line. After a disappointing playoff performance, where they struggled with nine sacks against the Rams, Minnesota committed significant resources to address the issue. Head coach Kevin O'Connell explained the need, stating, “There’s no question we’ve got to find a way to solidify the interior of the pocket.”

Jackson, 22, stands at 6 feet 4 inches and weighs 315 pounds. He is recognized for his prototypical size for a guard, featuring a thick chest and strong arms. During his four years at Ohio State, Jackson started as a left guard, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors and being named a first-team All-American in his senior season.

O’Connell highlighted Jackson’s versatility, noting his impressive transition to left tackle in his final year when the team needed him to step up after an injury to a teammate. “The willingness to just jump over to the left tackle spot… was impressive,” he remarked.

General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah praised Jackson as well, saying, “He’s an incredibly poised, talented athlete in pass protection… a strong player who can move people in the run game.” Jackson expressed enthusiasm about joining the Vikings and stated, “I’m excited for this offense and this organization because just how explosive and how dynamic it really is.”

As the Vikings move forward, Jackson is expected to compete for a starting role while providing depth at left guard, especially with starting left tackle Christian Darrisaw recovering from a knee injury. The team has high hopes for Jackson’s potential impact in the upcoming season.
