Jonathan Allen Defensive Lineman Visit Nfl

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings are set to host former Washington Commanders defensive lineman Jonathan Allen for a visit on Monday, March 10, 2025, according to ESPN. The two-time Pro Bowler, released by Washington on March 7, is reportedly generating significant interest from the Vikings.

In his eight seasons with the Commanders, Allen played in 109 games, recording 401 tackles, 118 quarterback hits, and 42 sacks, solidifying his status as a formidable defensive presence. Although his 2024 season was hampered by a partially torn pectoral muscle that caused him to miss nine games, he returned to play in the final two regular season games and all three playoff matches, including the NFC Championship.

“The Vikings could really use a strong interior pass rusher, and Allen fits the bill,” said a source familiar with the team’s needs. Allen was a nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in both 2020 and 2021 while showcasing leadership qualities on and off the field.

Allen’s release stemmed from financial considerations, as he was entering the final year of a four-season, $72 million contract. After the Commanders were unable to complete a trade regarding his high salary, they opted to cut him to save cap space.

Reports indicate the San Francisco 49ers have also expressed interest in Allen, but his visit to the Vikings suggests Minnesota may be a frontrunner in securing his services.

In pursuit of bolstering their defensive line, the Vikings entered free agency with over $61 million in cap space, making them well-positioned to negotiate a competitive contract for Allen. If signed, his addition would help strengthen a defense that recorded only four of its 48 sacks in 2024 from the interior line.

Should Allen return to form, he could significantly impact the Vikings’ pass rush, especially after being named to the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2022, where he totaled 16.5 sacks over those two seasons.
