Vikings’ Jonathan Greenard Leaves Game with Shoulder Injury
Minnesota, MN – Vikings linebacker Jonathan Greenard suffered a shoulder injury during the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. The injury occurred while he was chasing Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who scrambled for four yards.
Greenard, who has been a key player on the Vikings’ defense, collapsed on the field and was in visible pain. After a brief evaluation at the sideline, he was taken to the locker room, later being ruled out for the remainder of the game.
At the time of his exit, the Vikings were trailing the Ravens 19-10. Greenard recorded two tackles and a pass defensed before the injury. This season, he has registered 20 tackles and two sacks, proving to be a vital part of the Vikings’ defensive strategy.
The team listed Greenard as questionable to return initially, but as the game progressed, they officially ruled him out. The nature of the injury remains unclear, but early assessments suggest it could potentially involve a collarbone injury or a separated shoulder.
Dallas Turner, a first-round pick in 2024, is expected to step up significantly in the absence of Greenard, contributing more snaps as the Vikings will need to rely on their defense even more. Andrew Van Ginkel, another standout edge rusher, will also carry a heavier load.
Greenard, who joined the Vikings after a successful stint with the Houston Texans, has made a strong impact since his arrival. In just his first year with Minnesota, he recorded 12 sacks and was named to the Pro Bowl. Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell is expected to provide more details on Greenard’s condition after the game.
