Vikings Prepare for 2025 NFL Draft with Limited Picks

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings enter the 2025 NFL draft with only four selections, including the 24th overall pick, but are expected to be proactive in building their roster on Thursday.
After committing over $300 million in contracts to veteran players, the Vikings are targeting key positions as they look for both depth and youth. Head Coach Kevin O'Connell indicated that the team is not feeling pressured to make a particular pick and is willing to explore trade options.
The Vikings will kick off the draft on April 24 at 7 PM Central Time, which will be broadcast on ABC, ESPN, and NFL Network. With only four selections—No. 24 in the first round, No. 97 in round three, No. 139 in round five, and No. 187 in round six—the team is considering possible trades to accumulate additional picks.
Strong candidates for selection include Georgia safety Malaki Starks, who showcased his versatility at the combine and had a productive interview with the Vikings. Additionally, North Dakota State offensive lineman Grey Zabel and Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon are names often mentioned in mock drafts. Both players fit crucial needs as Minnesota aims to bolster its offensive and defensive lines.
Other names under consideration are South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori and Washington State wide receiver Kyle Williams. The Vikings are also rumored to be interested in strong running back options, with Brashard Smith of SMU and Kalel Mullings of Michigan on their radar.
Assistant General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah emphasized the importance of understanding trading points to improve the team’s draft position. “You’re not only just drafting for 2025. You’re trying to build something that sustains,” Adofo-Mensah said.
All eyes will be on Minnesota as they look to enhance their roster with impactful selections and potentially make moves to gain additional prospects as the draft unfolds.
