Vikings Rumors Heat Up Ahead of Minicamp

EAGAN, Minnesota — As the Minnesota Vikings prepare for their upcoming mandatory minicamp, rumors are swirling regarding potential player movements. Key discussions involve cornerback Jaire Alexander of the Green Bay Packers, who may be on the verge of leaving the team.
CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin reports that the Vikings could remain interested in Alexander, who has been one of the NFL’s most talented yet often injured cornerbacks. The Packers have publicly hinted at parting ways with him, discussing a possible trade or release.
After June 1, if Alexander does not agree to a pay cut on a new contract offer, Green Bay could save $17 million by either cutting or trading him. While inter-division trades between the Vikings and Packers are rare, if Alexander is released, Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah might pursue him.
In addition to Alexander, safety John Johnson has emerged in the Vikings’ rumor mill. Bleacher Report‘s Moe Moton noted that while the team currently relies on starting safeties Harrison Smith and Josh Metellus, their depth is thin, with Theo Jackson and Jay Ward having only combined for 285 career defensive snaps.
Johnson, now healthy after recovering from a scapula injury, could provide versatility at both safety positions and in the slot. He represents a potential upgrade if the Vikings decide to add depth to their safety lineup.
Further complicating discussions, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell highlighted that while the Vikings have high hopes for quarterback pick McCarthy, the Indianapolis Colts may be re-evaluating their quarterback situation after placing Anthony Richardson on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. This shift could give Jones, the Colts’ other quarterback, an important opportunity in the upcoming season.
With training camp approaching, these developments will be closely watched by fans and analysts alike.
