Vikings Jeff Okudah Tim Jones Signing News

EAGAN, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings have made strategic roster moves this week, announcing agreements with cornerback Jeff Okudah and wide receiver Tim Jones on March 18, 2025. These additions come just days before the team’s offseason training camp begins.

Okudah, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, brings a wealth of potential experience to the Vikings’ defensive lineup. After facing injury setbacks during his tenure in Detroit, where he missed significant playing time, Okudah managed to rebound in 2022, starting 15 games and achieving career highs in tackles (73) and passes defended (7). His skills caught the attention of the Falcons, who traded for him in April 2023, allowing him to start nine games last season.

“I’m excited to be back in the NFC North and ready for a fresh start with the Vikings,” Okudah said after finalizing the terms of his deal, which were not disclosed. “I’m focusing on proving myself and contributing to the team’s success.”

In contrast, Jones brings depth to the Vikings’ wide receiver corps. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent from Southern Mississippi in 2021, he spent his entire rookie season on Jacksonville’s practice squad. Over the past three seasons, he has participated in all 51 regular-season games for the Jaguars, though his offensive statistics are modest, with only 17 receptions for 154 yards and no touchdowns. His value appears primarily in his special teams contributions, where he played 68% of snaps last season.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity in Minnesota and hopefully making a mark on special teams,” Jones stated. “Every role counts, and I plan to work hard to earn my place on this team.”

Both signings follow a series of roster adjustments, with the Vikings aiming to enhance their defensive stability and overall team competitiveness ahead of the upcoming NFL season. The team recently extended Byron Murphy Jr. and plugged other gaps through free agency, striving for a balanced and effective roster.

The timing of the announcements coincides with the opening of the 2025 NFL league year, which commenced on March 12. As free agency unfolds, the Vikings are poised to continue evaluating their roster and targeting areas for improvement as they aim for a successful season.
