Villanova Vs Xavier Basketball Game 2025

CINCINNATI, OhioVillanova and Xavier will face off in a pivotal Big East Conference matchup Tuesday night at the Cintas Center, with both teams looking to bolster their standings in a tightly contested conference race. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.

The Wildcats (11-6, 4-2 Big East) enter the game after a 12-point loss to St. John’s on Saturday, while the Musketeers (10-7, 2-4 Big East) snapped a rough stretch with a 77-63 victory over DePaul the same day. Villanova leads the all-time series 34-8, but the teams have split their last four meetings.

Xavier is a 2.5-point favorite in the latest odds, with the over/under set at 145.5 points. The game features two of the Big East’s top scorers: Villanova’s Eric Dixon, who averages 25.3 points per game, and Xavier’s Zach Freemantle, who is coming off a 20-point, 10-rebound performance against DePaul.

Dixon, a senior forward, has been a force for the Wildcats, scoring 20 or more points in eight of his last nine games. He leads the nation in scoring and is shooting 47% from 3-point range. Xavier’s Freemantle, meanwhile, has been a consistent presence in the paint, averaging 17.4 points and 7.5 rebounds this season.

Xavier head coach Sean Miller emphasized the importance of home-court advantage, particularly with students returning to campus. “Our students make such a big difference for us,” Miller said after Saturday’s win. The Musketeers will need that energy as they face a Villanova team that ranks No. 11 in offensive efficiency.

Villanova’s offense is fueled by its 3-point shooting, with five players having made at least 24 triples this season. Guards Wooga Poplar and Jhamir Brickus are both averaging double-digit points, with Brickus shooting over 50% from beyond the arc.

Defensively, both teams have struggled to force turnovers, ranking in the bottom third of Division I. Villanova’s slow tempo (No. 348 in pace) could play a factor in Tuesday’s matchup, as Xavier looks to push the ball and capitalize on its offensive rebounding.

The Musketeers will need to contain Dixon, who has averaged 13.8 points and 6.8 rebounds in six career games against Xavier. Last season, Xavier’s frontcourt held Dixon to 7-of-22 shooting in two matchups.

With both teams fighting for position in the Big East standings, Tuesday’s game could have significant implications for their NCAA Tournament hopes. Xavier currently has a 16.3% chance to make the tournament, according to projections, while Villanova is looking to solidify its resume with another quality win.
