Vinesh Phogat's Disqualification Verdict Delayed Again

Indian fans are anxiously waiting for the latest update on wrestler Vinesh Phogat‘s disqualification from the Paris Olympics. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) was supposed to announce its decision on August 13, 2024, but they have postponed it again to August 16 at 9:30 PM IST.

Vinesh, who had an impressive run in the women’s 50kg freestyle event, made it to the finals with three solid victories, including one against the famous Japanese wrestler Yui Susaki. Unfortunately, she was disqualified when she weighed in 100 grams over the allowed limit on the day of the final.

Feeling devastated, Vinesh filed an appeal with the CAS, hoping to receive a joint silver medal. This request came after her opponent, Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who had lost to her in the earlier rounds, advanced to the finals following Vinesh’s disqualification.

The emotional turmoil of this situation was evident when Vinesh expressed that she felt she didn’t have the strength to continue competing. Sporting icons globally have rallied around her during this tough time, providing support as she faced the heartbreak of not being able to compete for a medal.

Leading up to the Olympics, Vinesh wasn’t just preparing for her matches. She was also actively protesting against the former president of the Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, over serious allegations of sexual harassment that were leveled against him by several notable wrestlers, including Vinesh herself.
