Vipraj Nigam Shares How IPL Changed His Cricketing Journey

NEW DELHI: Delhi Capitals all-rounder Vipraj Nigam says the ongoing IPL has brought significant changes to his life. The 20-year-old cricketer, who was picked by DC for Rs 50 lakh, reflected on how lessons learned from senior players are helping his budding career.
Nigam shared his thoughts after several matches in the league, stating, “There have been a lot of changes in life. With the IPL, things always change. You get the chance to share the field with big players and learn from their practices up close. These are new experiences for me, and I’ll try to apply the same learnings in my own game.”
He praised the Delhi Capitals coaching staff for providing clarity about his all-rounder role. “When I was picked by Delhi Capitals, I had discussions with my coaches and the management. They always told me they see me as an all-rounder,” he explained. Nigam noted the coaches expected him to bowl between 2-4 overs while also focusing on his batting.
The young cricketer from Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, credited his childhood coach for shaping his career. “I have played in the UPT20 League. The best part was the support I received from my coach. He helped me understand that if you’re a bowler and unable to hit sixes or finish games, you limit your overall growth. Spending time with him helped me develop as a player,” Nigam said.
Nigam believes his stint at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) marked a turning point in his evolution as a bowler. “When I went to the NCA after playing for my state, the coaches there really helped me grow. I went as a batsman, but I practiced both batting and bowling. As a leg-spinner, they challenged me to take my bowling seriously. Earlier, I bowled just 2-3 overs as a part-timer, but my mindset changed completely after the NCA,” he concluded.
