CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Virginia Cavaliers will play their second game of the Ryan Odom era against NC Central on Friday, November 7, at 7:00 p.m. ET at John Paul Jones Arena.

The Cavaliers, coming off a strong debut win against Rider on November 3, where they won 87-53, aim to continue their momentum. During their previous matchups, Virginia has beaten NC Central by a total of 42 points, although the Eagles posed a challenge in 2022 with a competitive 73-61 game.

As of Thursday evening, Virginia is a 32.5-point favorite according to Action Network. The starting lineup is expected to remain the same, featuring Dallin Hall, Malik Thomas, Sam Lewis, Thijs De Ridder, and Johann Grünloh. Coach Odom hopes to give bench players ample playing time if the game unfolds favorably.

NC Central, which had a disappointing 14-19 record last season, faced a tough defeat against NC State this week, losing 114-66. Their standout player, sophomore guard Gage Lattimore, scored 20 points during that game, managing to shoot 5-for-15 from the field. Lattimore, who transferred from DII University Seton Hill, represents a significant threat to Virginia’s defense.

Joining Lattimore is senior forward Khouri Carvey, who contributed 19 points and eight rebounds in the loss to NC State. Standing at 6-foot-9, Carvey is the tallest player on the Eagles’ roster. As NC Central’s offense primarily relies on these two players, Virginia’s defense will need to be prepared.

The Eagles are led by head coach LeVelle Moton, who is in his 16th season with a career record of 278-16. After a sluggish start in their previous game, Virginia hopes their offense will perform better against NC Central, taking advantage of their size and athleticism.

Last week, Virginia showcased their potential, particularly through newcomers Thijs De Ridder and Johann Grünloh. Both European transfers are expected to have a significant impact on the game tomorrow.

Virginia’s previous performance included converting eight of 30 three-point attempts against Rider, a tactic that might be necessary if NC Central focuses on defending the paint.

The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and the Virginia Sports Radio Network. Coach Odom expressed his excitement about the upcoming game, stating, “We’ll work to build upon our last performance to keep improving as a team.”
