Virginia Guard Isaac McKneely Commits to Louisville Basketball

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Isaac McKneely, a 6-foot-4 guard formerly of the University of Virginia, has officially committed to the University of Louisville men’s basketball team.
McKneely, who played for the Cavaliers during the 2024-25 season, chose Louisville after also visiting the University of Tennessee earlier this week. His decision makes him the third transfer commitment for the Cardinals this offseason.
Ranked No. 14 among prospects by 247Sports and recognized as the No. 3 shooting guard, McKneely averaged 14.4 points per game and led the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with a 42.1% shooting percentage from three-point range last season. He also had impressive statistics in conference play, where he averaged 15.4 points per game while ranking among the top ten in several categories, including three-pointers made and shooting efficiency.
In his time at Virginia, McKneely was an All-ACC Honorable Mention and earned a spot on the NABC Division I East All-District Second Team. He recorded eight games with 20 or more points, including a season-high 27-point effort in an ACC Tournament matchup against Georgia Tech.
Adam Finkelstein, 247Sports Director of Scouting, described McKneely as “a prolific three-point shooter” and noted his versatility as a movement shooter capable of playing off-ball screens. Finkelstein stated, “He’s a movement shooter who can come off screens, but also has on/off ball versatility. He can operate off ball-screens and has improved his ability to make plays for others. The biggest limitation in his offensive game is in pressuring, and finishing at, the rim.”
During the Cardinals’ previous season, McKneely faced off against Louisville twice, recording 13 points in the first matchup and 10 points in the second. “It’s exciting to join a program that had so much success last season under Coach Kelsey,” McKneely said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to contributing to a team with great potential.”
Louisville is looking to build on a successful 2024 season, where they posted a 27-8 record and made their return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. The Cardinals are expected to bring in further talent, with plans to field one of the most competitive rosters in college basketball next season.
McKneely’s commitment follows Louisville’s recent recruitments from the NCAA Transfer Portal, including former Kennesaw State guard Adrian Wooley and a guard from Xavier. The Cardinals are investing significantly in their roster for the 2025-26 season, with projections of spending between $8 million to $10 million.
