Virginia Tech Aims for 6-0 Start Against Colorado State
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Virginia Tech will look to improve to 6-0 when they face Colorado State this evening at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. The game is scheduled for November 26, 2025, at 3 p.m. Mountain Time.
This matchup marks a rare meeting between the Hokies and the Rams. Previously, the two teams played once during the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic in December 2015, where the Hokies suffered a loss, 88-52. The Hokies will have familiarity on their side, as Colorado State guard Brandon Rechsteiner, who previously played for Virginia Tech, now leads the Rams with 13.2 points per game.
Virginia Tech has also seen success this season, receiving a vote in the AP Poll for the second consecutive week, a notable return since they last appeared in December 2022 at No. 21. The team has won the turnover battle in all five games this season, showcasing strong defensive capabilities.
Hokies assistant coach David Moats is also familiar with Colorado State, having spent years on the sidelines at Boise State before joining the Hokies. In addition, Jailen Bedford, now a Hokie, faced the Rams twice last season while playing for UNLV.
The Hokies’ roster includes returning players like Tobi Lawal, who leads the team with 12.4 points per game, and new additions from the transfer portal, including Bedford, Izaiah Pasha, and Amani Hansberry. Notably, Neo Avdalas, a 6-foot-9 five-star prospect from Greece, contributes significantly to the team’s offense.
On the other side, Colorado State aims to rebound from their first loss of the season against Denver, which ended their 12-game home winning streak. The Rams are averaging 25 made free throws per game and lead the nation with an 85.6% free throw percentage.
This showdown could set the stage for both teams in the tournament, providing a crucial early-season test. Following their game against Virginia Tech, the Rams will face either Saint Mary’s or Wichita State on Thanksgiving Day.
