Virginia Tech Vs Miami Football 2024

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech traveled to Hard Rock Stadium for the first time since 2021, taking on the No. 7 Miami Hurricanes in their third road game of the season. Heading into the second half, the Hokies hold a lead of 24-17 over the ranked Hurricanes.

The visiting team started on a strong note, with Virginia Tech’s defense making an immediate impact. During Miami’s opening drive, a pivotal play was executed by the Hokies’ defensive lineman, who tackled Miami’s quarterback, Cam Ward, forcing a fumble. This fumble was promptly recovered by a Virginia Tech linebacker, marking the first instance this season where the Hurricanes failed to score on their initial possession.

Capitalizing on the turnover, Virginia Tech’s quarterback delivered a 25-yard touchdown pass to a tight end, initiating the game’s first score. The quarterback has been a key player in the first half, amassing 91 passing yards along with 41 rushing yards.

As the second quarter commenced, safety Mose Phillips II made a significant contribution with his first career interception at the VT 13-yard line, returning it 33 yards. This turnover facilitated the Hokies’ second touchdown, highlighted by a 55-yard run from a running back, scoring in his seventh consecutive game and thereby tying the game while directing the momentum toward Virginia Tech.

The Hokies reclaimed the lead when a wide receiver scored with a dynamic 20-yard rushing touchdown. Apart from his scoring rush, he also caught two passes totaling 21 yards. Furthermore, a placekicker added a career-long 57-yard field goal, extending Virginia Tech’s lead to 24-14.

Defensively, the nation’s sack leader, defensive lineman, recorded the first sack of the game on Ward, resulting in a seven-yard loss. Following this, a linebacker registered another sack, further pushing Ward for a three-yard loss.

Virginia Tech, now gearing up for the second half, will begin with possession of the ball.
