Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Named MLB The Show 24 Cover Athlete
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been announced as the cover athlete for MLB The Show 24, the flagship video game of Major League Baseball. Guerrero, known for his powerful hitting, joins a prestigious lineup of players, including Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, and Bryce Harper, who have graced the cover in recent years. The game will be available for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
At just 24 years old, Guerrero has already established himself as one of baseball’s most formidable sluggers. He has been selected as an All-Star for three consecutive seasons, shared the title of home run co-champion in 2021, and emerged victorious in the 2023 Home Run Derby.
To celebrate Guerrero’s cover reveal, MLB The Show filmed a special documentary in his hometown of the Dominican Republic. This unique approach allows fans to witness the places that played a significant role in Guerrero’s upbringing and his path to becoming a top athlete.
A significant aspect of Guerrero’s story is his connection to his Hall of Fame father, Vlad Guerrero Sr. The younger Guerrero follows in his father’s footsteps, as Vlad Sr. was featured on the cover of MLB 2006, the precursor to MLB The Show.
The cover reveal event was hosted by former MLB player David Ortiz, a close friend of the Guerrero family. Ortiz, along with his own ties to Dominican baseball, added depth to the documentary by sharing stories and insights related to both Guerrero Jr. and Guerrero Sr.
This marks a significant achievement for the Guerrero family, as they become the first father-son duo to be featured as cover athletes for MLB’s premier video game. Guerrero Sr.’s cover appearance in MLB 2006 preceded his selection as an inductee into the Hall of Fame, a distinction later earned by Ortiz and Joe Mauer, who also graced the cover of MLB The Show.
