Wagner’s MLB Debut Shines Bright
In a thrilling moment for baseball fans, Will Wagner made his major league debut for the Toronto Blue Jays against the Angels in Anaheim, California. The anticipation was high as he stepped onto the field, with his father, former pitcher Billy Wagner, cheering him on from the stands.
Wagner didn’t waste any time making an impact. In his first at-bat, he hit a double on the very first pitch he saw, sending the ball deep into the right-center field gap. It was a sign of more great things to come.
In his next appearance at the plate, Wagner hit a single that brought in his first career RBI. The 26-year-old has been known for his line-drive hitting during his time in the minors, and it was clear he was ready to show what he could do in the big leagues.
Billy Wagner, a seven-time All-Star and Hall of Famer, gave his son some solid advice for his debut: ‘Relax, be present, and just have fun.’ Will took those words to heart as he dazzled the crowd with his performance.
The Blue Jays had called up Wagner from Triple-A Buffalo just a few days before his debut. He was part of a trade with the Houston Astros on his birthday, July 29, and has been making waves since joining the team. Blue Jays manager John Schneider plans to use him primarily at second base going forward.
Wagner had been batting an impressive .315 with six home runs and 43 RBIs in 77 games across both Sugar Land and Buffalo before his promotion. His performance suggests he can be a solid contributor to the Blue Jays’ lineup for the rest of the season.
