Waldo Cortes-Acosta Aims for Change in UFC Return Against Ryan Spann

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — UFC Heavyweight Waldo Cortes-Acosta is set to make a highly anticipated return to the Octagon against Ryan Spann on Saturday, March 15, 2025. After a nearly year-long hiatus from fighting, Cortes-Acosta, known as ‘Salsa Boy,’ is determined to shift his strategy and intensity in the cage.
Cortes-Acosta has faced criticism for his performance in previous bouts, where four out of five ended in decisions, often leaving fans wanting more action. “I need to stop messing around, wanting to dance, and go for my objective, which is to become UFC world champion,” he said. “It’s time for me to get serious and go after what I want.”
The fighter, who is 33 years old, acknowledges that his playful demeanor during fights has not served him well, particularly during his match against Andrei Arlovski. “I’m going in there to fight. You can expect a much more serious version of me,” he added.
Cortes-Acosta understands the stakes against Spann, a fighter known for his explosive attacks. “It’s going to be a war,” he remarked. “You know how Ryan Spann fights. He hits hard and fast, and so do I. I don’t back down. Let it be God’s will. But from my part, I’m going in there to break him quickly.”
The bout promises not only a critical moment for Cortes-Acosta’s career but also an exciting matchup for fans watching at the UFC Apex. In addition to the Heavyweight clash, UFC Vegas 104 will feature a main event rematch between Marvin Vettori and Roman Dolidze, both vying for a position in the 185-pound title chase.
The co-main event will showcase a fierce welterweight bout between veteran Chidi Njokuani and Brazilian fighter Elizeu Zaleski. Njokuani is looking to secure his third consecutive victory in this highly competitive division.
UFC fans can look forward to live round-by-round coverage of UFC Vegas 104, starting with the preliminary card at 4 p.m. ET, followed by the main card at 7 p.m. ET. The fight card provides an opportunity for fighters to showcase their skills, with many eager to make a statement.
As the Octagon prepares to welcome back Cortes-Acosta and other fighters, anticipation builds for what could be a pivotal evening in the careers of many.
