Walker Buehler Set to Return for Red Sox Against Mets

BOSTON — Red Sox right-hander Walker Buehler is expected to rejoin the starting rotation on Tuesday against the New York Mets after recovering from a right shoulder injury.
Buehler, 30, has been on the 15-day injured list since May 2 due to bursitis in his pitching shoulder. He last pitched for Boston on April 26. Following a three-inning simulated game at Fenway Park, Buehler reported feeling ready to return.
“I don’t think if it was late in the year that we would necessarily have done the exact same things,” Buehler told reporters. “But just too early in the year to kind of try and push it.”
In six starts this season, Buehler has a record of 4-1 with a 4.28 ERA, accumulating 29 strikeouts against nine walks. Despite a tough start to the season, he has pitched effectively in his last four outings, posting a 2.59 ERA.
The Red Sox, currently 22-24 and sitting third in the AL East, are looking to build momentum as they head into the summer. Boston aims for their second straight win after securing a victory against the Mets on Monday night.
Buehler was a highly anticipated addition to the Red Sox roster after signing as a free agent last December. He has a history of injuries, having undergone two Tommy John surgeries, the most recent taking place in August 2022.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed that Buehler is set to start on Tuesday, expressing confidence in the pitcher’s readiness. “At this point, yeah,” Cora said when asked about Buehler’s availability.
As Buehler prepares for his start, the team hopes his return will strengthen a rotation facing challenges with other pitchers currently on the injured list.
