Warriors Advance to Western Conference Semifinals After Defeating Rockets

HOUSTON, TX — The Golden State Warriors defeated the Houston Rockets 103-89 in Game 7 on Sunday night, securing their place in the Western Conference semifinals.
Buddy Hield emerged as a standout player, scoring 33 points, including nine 3-pointers. Steph Curry added 22 points and delivered crucial performances in the fourth quarter. After a combined performance that showcased resilience, the Warriors overcame a tough series to advance.
“We were lucky to get out of this series,” said Golden State coach Steve Kerr. “That was an incredibly impressive display of resolve.” The Warriors will meet the Minnesota Timberwolves next in the playoffs.
Hield, who faced struggles in Game 6, started strong with six 3-pointers in the first half, allowing the Warriors to build a steady lead. Despite Curry’s slow start, he found his rhythm in the fourth quarter, scoring 14 points during that crucial stretch.
Kerr praised Hield’s performance, noting not just his offensive contributions but also his effective defense. “It was a two-way performance,” he said. “I thought his defense was fantastic.”
The Warriors made NBA history as the seventh No. 7 seed to reach the semifinals. They have previously eliminated the Rockets from the playoffs four times between 2015 and 2019.
The Rockets fought back hard, especially after two straight wins forced the series to a Game 7, but fell short in the decisive match. Houston‘s coach, Ime Udoka, reflected on their efforts, saying, “We had our chances in this series. It’s going to sting now, but we’ll use it as motivation.”
While the Rockets had their chances—including a late rally in the game—the Warriors maintained composure and executed their strategy effectively. Draymond Green contributed with 16 points, while Jimmy Butler added 20 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
Hield expressed his excitement post-game. “Just trying to seize the moment and relish the moment. Tonight was fun,” he said. The Warriors’ teamwork was evident, as they had four starters scoring in double figures.
Next, the Warriors will travel to Minnesota to face the Timberwolves on Tuesday. The upcoming match proves to be an exciting challenge as both teams aim for championship glory.
