Warriors Face Nets as Kuminga Remains on Sidelines

BROOKLYN, New York — The Golden State Warriors will conclude their five-game road trip on Thursday night against the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center. After acquiring six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler before the February trade deadline, the Warriors have surged to a 9-2 record post-trade and currently hold the sixth seed in the Western Conference.
Despite this resurgence, the Warriors will be missing a significant contributor: 22-year-old forward Jonathan Kuminga, who has not played since January 4 due to an ankle injury. Kuminga has been rehabilitating but remains out for the matchup against the Nets, a situation that has sparked conversations among fans eager for his return.
Kuminga, averaging a career-high 16.8 points, five rebounds, and 2.2 assists this season, has left many wondering about his prolonged absence. Fans took to social media, expressing their frustration and concern, with one user commenting, “bruh when is Kuminga coming back?” Another remarked, “This is a little wild with Kuminga… it’s March 5 and still no Kuminga for an ankle injury.”
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr provided an update on Kuminga’s condition, stating that, despite the injury being more serious than initially thought, the player is “getting close” to returning. “No setback,” Kerr confirmed in an interview on Wednesday. “It does feel like he’s getting close.”
The Warriors are looking to build on their recent successes as they head into a six-game homestand following the road trip. It remains to be seen whether Kuminga will be ready to rejoin the lineup, having missed the last 29 games.
Thursday night’s contest is particularly crucial for both teams. The Warriors aim to extend their winning streak while the Nets seek to snap a five-game losing streak. Golden State previously faced Brooklyn on November 25, where they suffered a 128-120 defeat.
With a record of 34-28, the Warriors are projected as favorites for the game with a 73.9% chance of winning, according to statistical analysis. Meanwhile, the Nets hold a record of 21-40 after their recent struggles.
Fans can catch the game live on NBC Sports Bay Area and the YES Network at 7:30 PM ET, with streaming available on Fubo and NBA League Pass.
